The General Election Commission (KPU) reprimanded the vice-presidential candidate (cawapres) number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, following the first presidential debate on Tuesday night (December 12, 2023).
The reprimand was issued because the eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) showed cheering gestures during the debate.
“This [Gibran's behavior] is not allowed and we reprimanded him,” said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari, as reported by Antara, Thursday (December 14, 2023).
Gibran is running as vice-presidential candidate alongside presidential candidate (capres) Prabowo Subianto. This presidential-vice presidential pair will face two other pairs: Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.
Hasyim stated that the KPU will use Gibran's behavior as an evaluation for the next debate. “During the evaluation and preparation meeting for the next debate, we will convey this,” he said.
