September 2022 Inflation Reaches 1.17% (Month-on-Month)

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that in September 2022, inflation reached 1.17% (month-to-month/m-to-m) with a consumer price index (CPI) of 112.87. This means that the average price of goods in September increased by 1.17% compared to the previous month.

Last month's inflation was the highest this year, as shown in the graph. Of the 90 cities surveyed by BPS, 88 experienced inflation, and only 2 cities recorded deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bukittinggi at 1.87% (m-to-m) with a CPI of 114.45, and the lowest occurred in Merauke at 0.07% (m-to-m) with a CPI of 109.49.

Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Manokwari at 0.64% (m-to-m) with a CPI of 113.97, and the lowest deflation occurred in Timika at 0.59% (m-to-m) with a CPI of 113.87.

The September 2022 inflation was due to price increases indicated by the rise in most expenditure group indices, such as the clothing and footwear group (0.2%), the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group (0.16%), the household equipment, appliances, and routine maintenance group (0.35%), the health group (0.57%), and the transportation group (8.8%).

Cumulatively, from January to September 2022, inflation reached 4.84% (year-to-date/ytd). Compared to September 2021, last month's inflation reached 5.95% (year-on-year/yoy).
