The Directorate General of Customs and Excise summoned its head office officials from across Indonesia to a meeting in Jakarta on Friday, March 10, 2023.
According to the Director General of Customs and Excise, Askolani, this meeting is a routine annual agenda.
"(The purpose of the meeting is) to evaluate the reform steps that have been taken until 2022, and the further strengthening that must be done in 2023 and beyond," said Askolani, as reported by CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
The meeting attracted attention because it was held amid widespread public scrutiny of the lavish lifestyles and suspicious wealth of several customs officials, such as Eko Darmanto and Andhi Pramono.
The meeting also took place amidst the ongoing investigation into the disproportionate wealth of Rafael Alun Trisambodo, a Directorate General of Taxation employee who has now been dishonorably discharged for alleged money laundering.
Based on the State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN) data, Eko Darmanto, Andhi Pramono, and Rafael Alun Trisambodo all possess greater wealth than their superiors.
The wealth of the Regional Heads of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Kakanwil DJBC) across Indonesia ranges from Rp1 billion to Rp17 billion per person.
