Not Java, This Island Has the Highest Economic Growth in Q3 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that economic growth in Indonesia's eastern region was the highest among other islands. The economy in Maluku and Papua grew by 9.15% year-on-year (yoy) in the third quarter of 2021.

The next highest growth was in Sulawesi Island at 4.58% (yoy). BPS recorded Kalimantan Island's growth at 4.52% (yoy) and Sumatra Island at 3.78% (yoy).

Meanwhile, Java Island had the second-lowest economic growth at 3.03% (yoy). The lowest economic growth was recorded in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, experiencing a contraction of 0.09% (yoy).

Overall, Indonesia's economic growth was 3.51% year-on-year (yoy) in the third quarter of 2021. Indonesia's economy slowed from 7.07% (yoy) in the previous quarter. However, it was higher than the third quarter of 2020, which experienced a contraction of 3.49% (yoy).
