Based on data from the Ministry of Trade's National Basic Foodstuff Price Monitoring (Bapokstra PDN), prices of basic necessities throughout May 2017 showed considerable variation. Of the 12 basic commodity prices monitored, six commodities increased and six decreased.
From April 28th to May 30th, 2017, the price of chicken eggs saw the highest increase, rising 5.89 percent to Rp 23,083 per kilogram (kg). In the lead-up to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, prices of basic necessities usually tend to increase due to rising consumer demand. However, some commodities experienced price decreases due to harvest seasons or government stabilization efforts, such as imports from abroad.
