Indonesia was Southeast Asia's third-largest arms importer from 2016 to 2020.

Indonesia ranked third as the largest arms importer in Southeast Asia from 2016-2020, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Indonesia's arms imports totaled 2.4 billion SIPRI TIV, representing 1.7% of the global total over the five-year period.

Vietnam topped the list as the largest arms importer in Southeast Asia, with imports reaching 2.5 billion SIPRI TIV or 1.8% of global imports from 2016-2020. Singapore came in second, with imports totaling 2.4 billion SIPRI TIV, or 1.7% of the global total.

Below Indonesia were Thailand and the Philippines, whose arms import proportions were 1.2% and 0.8% respectively during 2016-2020. Their import values were recorded at 1.7 billion SIPRI TIV and 1.1 billion SIPRI TIV.

SIPRI uses the Trend Indicator Value (TIV) as a price-adjusted system to measure the volume of arms and components deliveries. TIV is based on the known unit production costs of a core set of weapons and is intended to represent the transfer of military resources rather than their financial value.
