President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will officially retire from his position as president in 2024. Like other high-ranking state officials, the president and vice president will receive a pension and other allowances to support their lives in retirement.
The pension and salary of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) are regulated in Law Number 7 of 1978 concerning the Financial/Administrative Rights of the President and Vice President, as well as Former Presidents and Vice Presidents.
Chapter III, Article 6, paragraph 1 states that the President and Vice President of the RI who honorably retire from their positions are entitled to a pension. Then, paragraph 2 states that the amount of the basic pension, as referred to in paragraph 1, is 100% of their final basic salary.
Chapter III, Article 2, paragraph 1 states that the president's salary is set at six times the highest basic salary of state officials other than the president and vice president. Meanwhile, the vice president's salary is four times the highest basic salary of state officials other than the president and vice president.
Based on Government Regulation (PP) Number 75 of 2000 concerning the Basic Salary of Leaders of the Highest/High State Institutions and Members of High State Institutions, as well as the Honorarium of Members of the Highest State Institutions, the salary of the highest state official other than the president and vice president is Rp5,040,000 per month, which is the salary for high-ranking state officials at the level of the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
This means that the president's pension salary is Rp30,240,000, or 6 x Rp5,040,000 per month. Meanwhile, the vice president's pension salary is Rp20,160,000, or 4 x Rp5,040,000 per month.
To date, there have been no revisions to these regulations. In other words, there has been no increase in the president's and vice president's salaries since the era of President Abdurrahman Wahid, also known as Gus Dur.
For information, the difference between their entitlements before and after retirement is that the President and Vice President of the RI will not receive allowances.
While still president, Jokowi received a position allowance of Rp32,500,000 per month. Meanwhile, Ma'ruf Amin, as vice president, received a position allowance of Rp22,000,000 per month.
