Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture's 2023 Budget Cut

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission IV has approved the Ministry of Agriculture's budget in the 2023 State Budget (APBN).

Deputy Chairperson of Commission IV, Anggia Erma Rini, stated that there were changes to the Ministry of Agriculture's budget from the amount stated in the 2023 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBN) financial note.

"The initial budget of Rp15.44 trillion underwent a reallocation of Rp103.52 billion, resulting in a revised budget of Rp15.31 trillion," Anggia said in an online broadcast of the Commission IV Working Meeting with Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo on Wednesday (21/9/2022).

Of the approved Ministry of Agriculture's budget, the largest allocation goes to the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, with approximately Rp2.8 trillion. The Directorate General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities received an allocation of Rp2.7 trillion.

Commission IV also requested that the Ministry of Agriculture evaluate the implementation of the 2022 budget. "And to refocus activities and reallocate the budget for activities that are not progressing according to target," said Anggia, who is from the National Awakening Party (PKB).

On the same occasion, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo stated that his ministry is striving to implement the 2023 programs and activities even better.

"The Ministry of Agriculture's strategy is to remain focused on the provision of primary food for the Indonesian population, followed by increased efforts to enhance the competitiveness of agricultural production to fill export markets," said Syahrul.
