As We Age, the Indonesian National Police Are Expected to Become Even More Firm and Just

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) celebrated its 78th anniversary (HUT) on July 1, 2024. On this occasion, Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) published the public's expectations of the Polri.

The survey found that 27.4% of respondents want the Polri to be more assertive in upholding the law. Furthermore, 19.4% of respondents hope the Polri will be fairer.

"The notion that the Polri's fairness only emerges after certain cases are highlighted by the public and go viral on social media must be dispelled by the institution," wrote a Kompas Research and Development researcher in their report on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Another 17.4% of respondents hope the Polri will be more protective, while 17.3% want the Polri to have high integrity and a more professional attitude.

Then, 10.3% hope for improved Polri performance, 6% want faster Polri services, and 0.6% have other expectations.

"Accelerated cultural reform to realize the Polri's Precise Vision, supported by the solidarity of all corps members, is needed to meet the challenges and expectations of the public," wrote Litbang Kompas.

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 534 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected from the Litbang Kompas panel, in proportion to the population of each province.

Data collection was conducted from June 18-20, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.22%, with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
