Tangerang City's Economy Most Affected by COVID-19 in Banten in 2020

Tangerang City was the hardest-hit regency/city in Banten by the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. This is evident in the city's economic contraction, the deepest among other regencies/cities in the province.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the regional gross domestic product (RGDP) at constant prices (ADHK) in Tangerang City was Rp 102.94 trillion in 2020. This figure decreased by 6.92% compared to the previous year, which reached Rp 110.59 trillion.

The economic contraction in Tangerang City was triggered by a decline in the performance of the transportation and warehousing sector by 45.72%. The RGDP in this sector fell from Rp 16.73 trillion to Rp 9.08 trillion last year.

Tangerang Regency experienced the second deepest economic contraction in Banten in 2020. The decrease was recorded at 3.7% in 2020 compared to the previous year.

Serang Regency's economy decreased by 1.96% in 2020. Then, the economic contractions in Serang City and South Tangerang City reached 1.29% and 1.01%, respectively, last year.

The economic contraction in Lebak Regency reached 0.88% in 2020. Meanwhile, the economies of Cilegon City and Pandeglang Regency decreased by 0.88% and 0.54%, respectively, last year.
