Wholesale Trade Price Index Rose 0.73% in December 2021, Driven by the Agriculture Sector

The national Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in December 2021 reached 107.66, a 0.73% increase from 106.88 the previous month (month-to-month/m-to-m). The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted that this increase was driven by the agricultural sector.

The WPI in the agricultural sector was recorded at 102.16 in December 2021. This figure represents a 1.68% increase compared to 100.48 in November 2021 (m-to-m).

Meanwhile, the WPI in the industrial sector reached 108.97 in December 2021, a 0.52% increase compared to the previous month's 108.40 (m-to-m). The WPI in the mining and quarrying sector rose by 0.25%, from 110.62 in November 2021 to 110.90 the following month (m-to-m).

Several commodities significantly contributed to the change in the WPI. In 2021, the commodities with the largest contributions were cooking oil and palm oil, at 0.24% and 0.20%, respectively.

Meanwhile, commodities that experienced price increases in December 2021 included cayenne pepper, palm oil, red chili peppers, shallots, chicken eggs, cooking oil, cement, and broiler chicken.

The year-on-year (yoy) change in the WPI in December 2021 showed a 2.91% increase. In December 2020, the WPI was recorded at 104.62.
