Asia Pacific Became the World's Largest Gaming Market in 2021

Newzoo projected global game revenue at US$175.8 billion, or Rp2,491 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp14,171/US$), in 2021. This represents a 1.1% decrease compared to the previous year, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of this amount, game revenue of US$88.2 billion is estimated to have originated from the Asia-Pacific market. This means the Asia-Pacific market contributed approximately 50% of total global game revenue.

According to Newzoo's report, the *mobile* gaming market is very large in Asia-Pacific. This is why the gaming market in this region was not significantly affected by the impact of the corona pandemic.

North America ranked second, generating game revenue of US$42.6 billion. This is equivalent to 24% of total global game revenue.

Game revenue from the European market is estimated at US$31.5 billion this year. This is equivalent to 18% of total global game revenue.

Furthermore, the Latin American gaming market is projected to generate revenue of US$7.2 billion, or 4%. Meanwhile, game revenue from the Middle East and Africa gaming market is US$6.3 billion, or 4%.

Newzoo conducted research on 72,000 respondents aged 10-65 in 33 major gaming industry countries/markets, including Indonesia. This research was conducted from late January to early April 2021.
