The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's inflation reached 5.51% in 2022, with the consumer price index (CPI) at 113.59.
Of the 90 regencies/cities surveyed by BPS, Kotabaru City in South Kalimantan experienced the highest inflation last year, at 8.65%.
The next highest inflation rates were recorded in Baubau City (8.35%), Tanjung Selor City (7.98%), Bukittinggi City (7.76%), and Bandung City (7.45%).
Following these were Jember Regency (7.39%), Padang City (7.38%), Serang City (7.22%), Kendari City (7.11%), and Kupang City (7.07%).
Several events that triggered inflation throughout 2022:
* January 2022: Cooking oil shortage occurred.
* April 2022: Increase in avtur prices triggered an increase in airfare.
* May 2022: Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holidays boosted demand for several staple commodities.
* June 2022: Weather anomalies in several horticultural production centers triggered price increases.
* September 2022: Price increases in Pertalite, Solar, and Pertamax fuel triggered increases in transportation fares.
* December 2022: Christmas and New Year 2022 celebrations boosted demand for several commodities.
