The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released data showing that inflation in June 2018 reached 0.59% compared to the previous month. This is the highest inflation rate since February 2018, or in the last five months. The high inflation last month coincided with the month of Ramadan and the upcoming 2018 Eid al-Fitr holiday. Furthermore, the weakening of the Indonesian Rupiah also contributed to the high inflation last month.
Last month's inflation occurred due to price increases across all expenditure groups. These include the food commodity group (0.88%), the processed food, beverages, tobacco, and cigarettes group (0.4%), and the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel group (0.13%). However, last month's inflation was lower than June 2017's inflation, which reached 0.69%.
The year-to-date (YTD) inflation rate (January-June 2018) was 1.9%, and the year-on-year (YoY) inflation rate (June 2018 compared to June 2017) reached 3.12%. Meanwhile, the core inflation rate in June 2018 was 0.24% (month-on-month/MoM), the YTD core inflation rate was 1.37%, and the YoY core inflation rate was 2.72%.
