Global Firepower: Indonesia Ranked Number 1 in ASEAN for Military Strength in 2021

Every October 5th is commemorated as the birthday of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Entering its 76th year, Indonesia's military strength is increasingly respected in both the regional and international arenas. The TNI is also frequently involved as a global peacekeeping force in conflict zones.

According to the global military ranking website *Global Firepower*, Indonesia's PowerIndex (PwrIndx) score is 0.2684. This level places the Indonesian military at 16th in the world out of 140 surveyed countries. This position also places Indonesia's military strength at the top in the Southeast Asian (ASEAN) region.

Vietnam's military strength ranks second best in ASEAN with a PwrIndx score of 0.4189. Thailand's military strength, with a PwrIndx score of 0.4427, is ranked 3rd; Myanmar, with a PwrIndx score of 0.6521, is ranked 4th; Singapore is ranked 5th with a PwrIndx score of 0.6931; Malaysia is ranked 6th with a PwrIndx score of 0.7451; the Philippines is ranked 7th with a PwrIndx score of 0.8219; Cambodia, with a PwrIndx score of 2.2751, is ranked 8th; and Laos, with a PwrIndx score of 3.3003, is ranked 9th.

*Global Firepower* calculates the PwrIndx using more than 50 indicators for each country, resulting in a unique formula. A small country can compete with developed countries by having advantages in several indicators in the calculation. The lower the PwrIndx score, the higher the country's military ranking. Conversely, the higher the PwrIndx score, the lower the military ranking.
