Three Years of Jokowi-JK, Double-Digit Investment Growth

Investment value during the three years of the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla administration recorded double-digit growth. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia's investment value in 2015 grew by 17.8 percent to Rp 545.4 trillion from the previous year. This investment value consisted of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of Rp 365.9 trillion and Domestic Direct Investment (DDI) of Rp 179.5 trillion.

Then in 2016, the investment value also grew by 12.36 percent to Rp 612.8 trillion from the previous year. This amount consisted of FDI of Rp 396 trillion and DDI of Rp 216.2 trillion. Furthermore, in the first semester of 2017, the investment value grew again by 12.95 percent to Rp 336.7 trillion compared to the first semester of the previous year. This achievement is equivalent to 49.7 percent of the target for the whole of 2017, which was Rp 678 trillion.

Amidst the stagnation of domestic economic growth due to slowing consumer spending, investment was able to support the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). BPS noted that the growth of the Fixed Capital Formation (FCF) component in the second quarter of 2017 grew by 5.35 percent (YoY), higher than the growth of Household Consumption Expenditure (HCE) of 4.95 percent.
