Indonesia's Annual Inflation Reaches 4.35% in June 2022, Highest in the Last Five Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's annual inflation rate in June 2022 reached 4.35% (year-on-year/yoy). This inflation rate is the highest since June 2017.

According to BPS, Indonesia's inflation in June 2022 was caused by price increases in most expenditure groups. The highest inflation rate came from the food, beverages, and tobacco group at 8.26% (yoy).

Inflation also occurred in the household goods and routine maintenance group at 4.77% (yoy). Then, the personal care and other services group experienced inflation of 4.43% (yoy).

Of the 11 expenditure groups, only the information, communication, and financial services group recorded deflation, at -0.23% (yoy).

Several commodities that experienced price increases in June 2022 include red chilies, cayenne peppers, shallots, chicken eggs, tomatoes, filter kretek cigarettes, water spinach, white cabbage, green chilies, white mustard greens, house rent, domestic helper wages, powdered/liquid detergent soap, and airfare.

Commodities that experienced price decreases include chicken meat, fresh fish, cooking oil, beef, garlic, live chicken, and gold jewelry.
