What is the contribution of the prospective Nusantara IKN economy to East Kalimantan's GDP?

The contribution of the prospective Nusantara Capital City (IKN) economy, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) amounted to Rp 149.06 trillion in 2020. This value is equivalent to a quarter or 24.46% of the East Kalimantan (Kaltim) GRDP and is the largest among other regencies/cities.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Kaltim economy, according to the GRDP size of the business field based on current prices (ADHB), reached Rp 607.32 trillion in 2020.

The economy of another prospective IKN Nusantara, namely Penajam Paser Utara Regency, was only Rp 9.05 trillion in 2020. Thus, the prospective IKN contributed only 1.49% to the Kaltim GRDP. This portion is the second smallest after Mahakam Ulu Regency, which only contributed 1.49% to the Kaltim GRDP.

The next largest GRDP contributing regencies/cities are Kutai Timur, reaching 19%; followed by Balikpapan City at 17%, Samarinda City at 10.92%, and Bontang City at 9.28%. Paser Regency's economy contributed 7.11% to the Kaltim GRDP, and Kutai Barat Regency contributed 4.47% to the total Kaltim GRDP in 2020.

The government plans to relocate the center of government from DKI Jakarta to the IKN Nusantara located in the two regencies of Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara in Kalimantan. The location of the prospective IKN is in the National Strategic Area (KSN) with an area of 256,142 hectares.
