Survey: 35.47% of Businesses Ceased Operations for 2 to 4 Months Due to PPKM

A survey on the current situation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by Mandiri Institute revealed that 94.7% of businesses had to halt operations for more than a week during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) in July-August 2021. The majority of businesses (35.47%) even had to stop operations for 2-4 months.

Furthermore, 23.64% of businesses ceased operations for 1-2 months. In fact, 18.28% of businesses are still not operating to this day since the PPKM.

Additionally, 11.27% of businesses temporarily stopped operations for 2 weeks to 1 month, and 6.02% stopped for 1-2 weeks. Only 5.3% of businesses stopped operating for less than a week.

The main reason for these businesses ceasing operations was the pandemic (71.69%). Other factors included lack of raw materials (10.21%), trying other businesses (9.75%), lack of workforce (5.37%), and having other jobs (1.61%).

Mandiri Institute conducted this survey on the impact of the emergency PPKM on 2,944 respondents. The survey was conducted in December 2021, with the majority of respondents from Java and Sumatra.
