In April 2019, Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik) reported inflation of 0.44% compared to the previous month. This is the highest inflation rate in the last four months, or throughout the year. Year-to-date inflation (January-April) was 0.8%, while year-on-year inflation (April 2019 compared to April 2018) was 2.83%.
The inflation was driven by increases across all expenditure groups, including: food (1.45%), followed by processed food, beverages, tobacco and cigarettes (0.19%), clothing (0.15%), and housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel (0.12%).
Core inflation in April 2019 was 0.17%, government-administered price inflation was 0.16%, and volatile goods inflation was 1.59%. The energy component experienced deflation of 0.19%.
