The Indonesian government allocated 20.87% of the 2022 State Budget (APBN) to pay interest on its debt.

The Indonesian government allocated Rp 405.87 trillion (approximately USD 27.5 billion based on 2022 average exchange rates) for interest payments on its debt in the 2022 State Budget (Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara/APBN). This represents 20.87% of the total central government expenditure for the year, which amounted to Rp 1.94 quadrillion (approximately USD 130 billion).

The breakdown shows Rp 393.69 trillion allocated for domestic debt interest payments and Rp 12.17 trillion for foreign debt interest payments.

As of November 2021, government debt totaled Rp 6.71 quadrillion (approximately USD 450 billion). This comprised Rp 5.89 quadrillion (87.73%) in the form of State Bonds (Surat Berharga Negara/SBN), including Rp 4.61 quadrillion in domestic SBN and Rp 1.27 quadrillion in foreign currency-denominated SBN.

The remaining Rp 823.51 trillion (12.27%) of government debt was in the form of loans, with Rp 811.03 trillion representing foreign loans and Rp 12.48 trillion representing domestic loans.

The government targeted a budget deficit of Rp 868 trillion (approximately USD 58.5 billion), or 4.85% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2022. This is lower than the 2021 outlook of Rp 961.5 trillion (approximately USD 65 billion), or 5.82% of GDP.
