Defense Budget Increases by 11.6% to Rp 134.1 Trillion in 2022

The Indonesian government has allocated a budget of Rp 134.1 trillion for defense in the 2022 State Budget (RAPBN). This allocation represents an 11% increase compared to the 2021 outlook of Rp 120.2 trillion.

Next year's budget will be used for the procurement and maintenance of defense equipment, Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), and the development/procurement of defense infrastructure. It will also be used to strengthen national food reserves. The government also plans to strengthen mental and cultural revolution, as well as reinforce national values.

The defense budget in 2021 decreased by 12.2% from 2020. This decrease was due to the reallocation of the budget among Ministries/Institutions (K/L). This reallocation was used for securing the procurement of vaccines and national vaccination, handling the impact of the pandemic, social protection, and accelerating national economic recovery.

Meanwhile, in 2020, the realization of the health budget increased by 18.6% from 2019. This increase was due to the fulfillment of medical equipment and materials (Almatkes). In addition, there were operations to discipline the implementation of health protocols in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
