Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. Post-COVID growth at the end of 2020 was recorded at only 1.3%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 377,580, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp57,360,000/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 179th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the regency's economy, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are the leading sectors.
In 2023, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in Luwu Regency recorded a value of Rp11.42 trillion, ranking first among the 17 sectors. This sector grew by 2.29% compared to the previous year's Rp10.75 trillion.
Following this, the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector grew by 10.09% to Rp2.34 trillion, and the construction sector grew by 15.7% to Rp2.02 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five GRDP sectors in Luwu Regency is government administration, defense, and mandatory social security, with a value of Rp835.35 billion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 3.72% over the past year from the previous year's Rp793.61 billion.

In terms of distribution, the main sector contributing the most to GRDP growth in Luwu Regency is agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with a contribution of 46.16%. Other sectors in the top five include wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, construction, real estate, and manufacturing.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are accommodation and food services, other services, electricity and gas supply, corporate services, and water supply, waste management, waste disposal, and recycling.
