Palembang's 2023 Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp194.57 trillion. This represents a 5.12% growth compared to the previous year's Rp179.11 trillion.
Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic year of 2020, the region's economic growth is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 0.28%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 1.76 million, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp114.03 million/capita/year. Nationally, this ranks 60th.
Of the 17 sectors driving the region's economy, the manufacturing industry is the leading sector.
The manufacturing sector in Palembang is the mainstay and contributed the largest share to the 2023 GRDP, reaching Rp62.72 billion. This represents a 4.02% growth compared to the previous year's Rp57.74 billion.
Following this is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 7.26% to Rp35.52 billion, and the construction sector, now in third place, which grew by 2.52% to Rp30.29 billion.
The final sector in the top five is transportation and warehousing, with a GRDP of Rp11.19 billion. This sector recorded a growth of 9.91% compared to the previous year's figure of Rp9.19 billion.

According to its distribution, the main sector contributing the largest growth to Palembang's GRDP is the manufacturing sector, with a contribution of 34.1%. Other sectors in the top five are wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, construction, information and communication, and real estate.
The sectors with the smallest distribution are Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Water Supply; Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; Electricity and Gas Supply; Corporate Services; and Mining and Quarrying.
