BNN Records 1,307 Drug Suspects in Indonesia in 2020

The number of suspects in narcotics cases has been decreasing since 2018. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) reported 1,307 suspects (833 cases) in 2020. This figure is down 13.16% from the previous year's 1,505 suspects.

The cumulative number of narcotics suspects from 2009 to 2020 totaled 9,531 individuals, involving 6,128 recorded cases.

From 2009 to 2019, the number of narcotics suspects in Indonesia showed an increasing trend, peaking in 2018 before declining until 2020. In 2018, there were 1,545 suspects, while the lowest number was recorded in 2010 with only 75 suspects.

Regionally, North Sumatra had the highest number of narcotics suspects nationwide, with 658 individuals from 2009 to 2020. East Java and East Kalimantan followed with 518 and 461 suspects, respectively.

The BNN seized narcotics assets worth Rp 984.6 billion. Seized narcotics included 26.9 million grams of marijuana, 2.37 million pills of various drugs, 11.6 million grams of methamphetamine, and 4.8 million ecstasy pills.
