BPS: More Women Get Divorced, More Men Remain Single

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that women aged 10 and over have the highest divorce rate, both in terms of legally dissolved marriages and widowhood. In 2021, 10.25% of women were recorded as widowed.

The percentage of widowed women is higher than that of men. Only 2.66% of men were widowed.

Furthermore, 2.58% of women were divorced in 2021. The percentage of divorced men was 1.66%.

Conversely, a significantly larger percentage of men are single compared to women. 36.4% of men are single, while the figure for women is 27.27%.

Slightly more women are married than men. 59.9% of women are married, compared to 59.28% of men.

BPS also states that the average age for a woman's first marriage is younger, at 20.61 years. The average age for a man's first marriage is 24.85 years.
