Jakarta's Population Projected to Reach 11.24 Million in 2045

The population of Jakarta is projected to reach 11.24 million in 2045, coinciding with Indonesia's centennial. This comprises an estimated 5.38 million males and 5.85 million females.

This projection is based on a report titled *Indonesia Population Projection 2015-2045*, jointly published by the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The report projects that in 2045, 7.32 million (65.12%) of Jakarta's population will be in the productive age group (15-64 years).

The remaining 3.92 million (34.88%) will be categorized as non-productive, consisting of 2.17 million in the non-productive age group (0-14 years) and 1.74 million in the post-productive age group (65 years and older).

Based on this data, Jakarta's dependency ratio will reach 53.56% in 2045. This means that every 100 people of productive age will support 54 non-productive individuals.

A dependency ratio above 50% indicates that Jakarta will no longer be in its demographic bonus period.

According to the same report, Jakarta is currently in its demographic bonus period, where the productive-age population still dominates.

Jakarta's dependency ratio was 40.18% in 2022 and is projected to increase to 49.62% by 2040.

Jakarta's population is also projected to peak at 11.28 million in 2040, before gradually declining from 2041 onwards, as shown in the graph.

Jakarta's dependency ratio is expected to exceed 50% starting in 2041 and continue to rise until 2045. This signifies the end of the demographic bonus period and a projected increase in the non-productive population.
