Indonesia's population in 2018, according to the United Nations (UN), reached 266.79 million. This placed Indonesia fourth in the world in terms of population size, behind China, India, and the United States.
Indonesia's population is projected to continue growing, peaking in 2062 at 324.76 million, assuming a medium fertility variant. This would place Indonesia sixth in the world. However, after that, Indonesia's population will decline due to lower birth rates and a growing elderly population until the end of the 21st century. As a result, Indonesia's population will be approximately 306 million.
High birth rates in two African countries, Nigeria and Congo, and in the Asian country of Pakistan, will push Indonesia down to seventh place in terms of global population. India holds the top spot with a population of 1.52 billion, surpassing China's 1.02 billion. The world's population is projected to reach 11.2 billion.
