Not Jakarta, This Province Has the Most Passenger Cars in Indonesia

East Java Regional Police (Polda) recorded 9.47 million passenger cars, based on data from *Korlantas.polri.go.id*, January 17, 2022, at 23:34 WIB. This is the highest number in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta, a city with high traffic density, ranks second on this list. The Jakarta Metro Police (Polda Metro Jaya) recorded 3.57 million passenger cars.

This number is less than half the number of cars in East Java, indicating higher traffic density in East Java. In fact, research from traffic data analysis company INRIX shows Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, ranks first as the most congested city in Indonesia, while Jakarta ranks second.

Next, the province with the third highest number of passenger cars is West Java with 1.84 million units. Central Java occupies the fourth position with 1.46 million units.

The number of passenger cars in North Sumatra is recorded at 737,030 units. Meanwhile, South Sulawesi Regional Police recorded 549,380 passenger cars.

For information, a passenger car is a motorized vehicle for transporting people with a maximum of eight seats, including the driver, or weighing no more than 3,500 kilograms.
