Not Jakarta, This Province Has the Lowest Poverty Rate in Indonesia

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), South Kalimantan (Kalsel) has the lowest poverty rate in Indonesia. The number of poor people in South Kalimantan decreased by 10,350 in September 2021 to 197,760, down from 208,110 in March 2021.

In terms of percentage, the poverty rate in South Kalimantan fell by 0.27 percentage points to 4.56% in September 2021, compared to 4.83% in March 2021. This means that South Kalimantan's poverty rate in September 2021 was 5.15 percentage points lower than the national average of 9.71%. This figure is also the lowest among the 33 other provinces.

The provinces with the next lowest poverty rates are DKI Jakarta and Bangka Belitung Islands, both at 4.67%. Following these are Bali with a poverty rate of 4.72%, and Central Kalimantan at 5.16%.

Riau Islands also had a low poverty rate of 5.75%. This is followed by West Sumatra at 6.04%, East Kalimantan at 6.27%, and North Maluku and Banten at 6.38% and 6.5% respectively.

The national poverty rate fell by 0.43 percentage points to 9.71% in September 2021 from March 2021. Specifically, the rural poverty rate decreased by 0.57 percentage points to 12.53% in September 2021, while the urban poverty rate fell by 0.29 percentage points to 7.6%.
