Over 96% of the population of West Nusa Tenggara is Muslim.

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) recorded that the population of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was 5.41 million as of June 2021. Of this number, 5.23 million (96.83%) were Muslim.

130,720 (2.42%) of NTB's population adhered to Hinduism. There were also 16,910 (0.31%) who practiced Buddhism.

Furthermore, 13,550 (0.25%) of NTB's population were Christian, and 9,930 (0.18%) were Catholic.

40 residents of NTB were recorded as practicing Confucianism, while 58 adhered to indigenous beliefs.

By gender, 2.69 million (49.86%) of NTB's population were male, while 2.71 million (50.14%) were female.

Based on marital status, 2.68 million (49.53%) of NTB's population were married. 2.45 million (45.34%) were unmarried.

There were 109,700 (2.03%) individuals who were divorced, and 167,790 (3.1%) were widowed.
