North Sumatra Has the Highest Number of Narcotics Cases in Indonesia

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) recorded 12,890 drug cases up to the first quarter of 2021. North Sumatra had the highest number of drug cases.

There were 2,049 recorded cases in North Sumatra. North Sumatra also had the highest number of individuals implicated in drug cases, with 2,661 suspects.

East Java was in second place with 1,910 cases up to the first quarter of 2021. Jakarta was in third place with 964 cases. West Java followed in fourth place with 672 cases, and Central Java in fifth place with 661 cases.

Of the total 12,890 cases, the BNN processed 291 cases. The remaining 12,599 cases were handled by the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

By type of drug, methamphetamine (sabu) had the highest number of cases, at 10,567. This accounts for approximately 82% of the total drug cases.
