Human Development Index Improved During Jokowi's First Term

Human development during the presidency of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) shows improvement. This is reflected in the increase of the Human Development Index (HDI) to 71.39 in 2018 from 68.9 in 2014, the beginning of Jokowi's term as the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia's HDI has been above 70 since 2016, thus entering the high category from the previous medium category.

This achievement in human development is measured based on three dimensions: long and healthy life, knowledge, and decent living standards. In terms of longevity, life expectancy at birth increased to 71.2 years in 2018 from 70.59 years in 2014.

Meanwhile, in terms of expected years of schooling (EYS), it increased to 12.91 years in 2018 from 12.39 years in 2014, and mean years of schooling (MYS) rose to 8.17 years from 7.73 years previously. Similarly, in terms of decent living standards, the community shows improvement. Household expenditure in 2018 increased to Rp 11.06 million per capita compared to Rp 9.9 million per capita in 2014.
