The lowest suicide rate is in the Eastern Mediterranean region, at 5.9 per 100,000 population.

The WHO states that the global total of suicide deaths has decreased since 2000, from nearly 800,000 to just over 700,000 in 2019.

The crude death rate for suicide decreased by 29% during that period, from 13.0 deaths per 100,000 population to 9.2 deaths per 100,000 population.
