Five million land plots were targeted for certification in 2017 under President Joko Widodo's administration program. This step aims to increase the number of certified land and reduce agrarian disputes and conflicts.
Currently, 120 million hectares (ha) of land remain uncertified, representing approximately 60 percent of the total land area. Meanwhile, only 46 million ha have been certified, as reported by Kontan Harian (21/12). This initiative is expected to create new job opportunities for surveyors and appraisers, typically provided by public appraisal services.
In 2015, the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency legalized 836,921 land plots, totaling approximately 188,307 ha, as part of the agrarian reform program (TORA). The target for 2016 was approximately 1,050,073 land plots covering around 236,266 ha. Regarding identified abandoned land, 66 plots were identified out of a target of 205 plots in 2016. In 2015, there were 932 cases of agrarian disputes and conflicts, with 515 cases resolved. In 2016, there were 2,642 cases, with only 251 resolved by August 31st.
