The trend of Indonesian citizens (WNI) changing their citizenship to Singaporean has been growing over the past five years.

According to Detik.com, the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Silmy Karim, stated that approximately 1,000 Indonesian citizens switch to Singaporean citizenship annually. The average age of those who relocate is within the productive age range of 25-35 years old.

"Around 1,000 Indonesian students in Singapore become Singaporean citizens every year. We are competing to attract talented and intelligent individuals," said Silmy at the Gen Z Festival by CentennialZ on Saturday (July 8, 2023).

Until April 2023, the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights recorded 329 Indonesian citizens who had relocated to the neighboring country.

This number shows a significant increase year-on-year (YoY) compared to the previous period, which reached 286 individuals.

Looking at the five-year trend, 2022 recorded the highest number of Indonesian citizens moving to Singapore, with 1,091 individuals.

Meanwhile, a decrease in the number of relocations occurred between 2019 and 2020, from 940 to 811 individuals.
