Drug Cases Surge: Over Ten Thousand Drug-Related Reports Filed by the BNN from 2011-2018

The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) released data on the number of reported narcotics cases from 2011 to 2018. The figures fluctuated during this period, totaling 14,010 cases.

The peak in reported narcotics cases occurred in 2013 with 4,745 cases. Afterward, the number of reports tended to decrease. The lowest number of reported narcotics cases was in 2016, with 883 cases reported to the BNN. The following year, in 2017, the number increased again to 1,011 cases and then decreased slightly in 2018 to 990 cases.

The highest number of narcotics reports received by the BNN from 2011 to 2018 originated from South Kalimantan province, with 901 reported cases. This figure far surpasses other provinces. Next, the BNN received the second-highest number of narcotics case reports from Bali (479 cases) and the third-highest from Central Kalimantan (410 cases).

Recently, the police again apprehended an artist involved in a narcotics case. Musician Erdian Aji Prihartanto, or Anji, was arrested on suspicion of narcotics offenses last Friday (June 11, 2021) in Cibubur, East Jakarta. Police found evidence of marijuana during the arrest.

The Indonesia Narcotic Watch (INW) urged the police to uncover and arrest drug traffickers operating within the entertainment industry. Anji's arrest proves the prevalence of narcotics trafficking and abuse among celebrities, as quoted from Antara.
