Christianity is the majority religion in West Papua. The population of West Papua who practice Islam numbers 437,110 or 38.06% of the total population. The population in this youngest province in Indonesia who are Catholic numbers 88,900 or 7.74%.

There are 1,190 or 0.1% of the West Papuan population who practice Hinduism. Then, there are also 915 people or 0.08% of the population in this region, a new province carved from Papua Province, who practice Buddhism.
