Nine Orphanages Under the Supervision of the Jakarta Provincial Social Service

In 2020, the Jakarta Provincial Social Service Agency oversaw nine orphanages with a total capacity of 1,105 children. These orphanages cater to neglected infants, children, and adolescents.

The Putra Children's Welfare Orphanage has the largest number of units, with four, and a capacity of 650 children. This orphanage handles neglected children aged 13 to 18, both male and female.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, the function of orphanages is to provide substitute care to meet the physical, mental, and social needs of their children, ensuring they receive ample, appropriate, and adequate opportunities for personality development as expected.

The placement of children in orphanages must be regularly monitored. This is necessary to ensure alignment with the primary goal: returning children to their families or closest environments.

In Jakarta, the number of neglected infants and children totaled 70 in 2020. This comprised four neglected infants and 66 neglected children. This situation demands government attention to ensure the protection and care of underage children.
