These 10 Countries Are Experiencing Declining Populations

According to Worldometer, there were at least 7.8 billion people in the world in 2021. This population is spread across more than 230 countries and continues to grow each year. However, some countries are experiencing population decline.

Citing World Atlas, Lithuania experienced the highest population decline, at -1.483% from 2015-2020. In 2015, the country's population was 2.93 million. This number decreased to 2.72 million in 2020.

Lithuania is currently experiencing its lowest population in decades due to increasing emigration to wealthier Western European countries, particularly the United Kingdom.

Latvia follows in second place with a population growth of -1.148%. Its population in 2015 was 1.99 million, while in 2020 it decreased to 1.88 million. Latvia's population is projected to be only 1.48 million by 2050.

Venezuela is in third place with a population growth of -1.125%. Its population in 2015 was 30.08 million, while in 2020 it was 28.4 million. After experiencing a severe economic crisis, many Venezuelans left their country and sought refuge in other South American nations.
