Population in 38 Indonesian Provinces in Semester II 2025

According to data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil), the population of Indonesia reached 288,315,089 people in the second semester of 2025.

The number of male Indonesian residents reached 145,498,092 people, and female residents reached 142,816,997 people.

"Compared to the first semester of 2025, the population of Indonesia increased by approximately 1.6 million people," said Ditjen Dukcapil Teguh Setyabudi at the event to release population data for the second semester of 2025 in Jakarta on Thursday (12/3/2026).

If viewed by province, the most populous province is West Java, with 52.21 million people, or 18% of the total national population.

Here are the 10 provinces with the largest populations in Indonesia in the second semester of 2025:

1. West Java: 52,211,020 people
2. East Java: 42,226,212 people
3. Central Java: 38,649,532 people
4. North Sumatra: 15,762,983 people
5. Banten: 13,173,618 people
6. Jakarta: 10,881,514 people
7. South Sulawesi: 9,632,745 people
8. Lampung: 9,272,142 people
9. South Sumatra: 9,220,462 people
10. Riau: 7,258,888 people

Meanwhile, the provinces with the least population are West Papua, with only 588,491 people, followed by South Papua with 588,837 people, and West Papua with 632,788 people.
