According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), DKI Jakarta will become the province with the highest population density in Indonesia by 2026.

Jakarta is recorded to have a density of 16,129 people per square kilometer (km²), with a projected population of 10.66 million people.

This means that every area of 1 km² in Jakarta is inhabited by more than 16,000 people. Meanwhile, the province with the lowest population density is South Papua, with 5 people per km². Here is the population density across all Indonesian provinces in 2026, ranked from highest to lowest:
