The population density of Indonesia continues to increase until 2026.

According to a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in 2026, the population density in Indonesia reached 152 people per square kilometer (km²).

This figure increased compared to the previous year, which was recorded at 150 people per km², and it also set a new record since 2016.

Over the past decade, the population density in Indonesia has continuously shown an increase, as can be seen in the graph.

In 2026, DKI Jakarta became the most densely populated province, with a population density of 16,129 people per km².

It was followed by West Java with 1,381 people per km², Banten with 1,351 people per km², D.I Yogyakarta with 1,199 people per km², and Central Java with 1,123 people per km².

Meanwhile, the province with the lowest population density was South Papua, with just 5 people per km².

BPS projects that there will be 287.18 million residents in Indonesia in 2026, with a growth rate of 1.07% per year.
