MBG Poisoning Victims Reach 16,000 by End of October 2025, Here's the Provincial Distribution

According to data from the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI), the number of victims of poisoning from the free nutritious meal program (MBG) in Indonesia reached 16,109 people as of October 31, 2025.

This number is spread across 26 provinces, with West Java Province having the highest number, reaching 4,955 victims or 30.8% of the total victims.

Below are the top 10 provinces with the most MBG poisoning victims as of October 31, 2025, according to JPPI monitoring:

1. West Java: 4,955 victims
2. Central Java: 2,736 victims
3. DI Yogyakarta: 2,707 victims
4. East Java: 1,312 victims
5. East Nusa Tenggara: 800 victims
6. Central Sulawesi: 603 victims
7. Bengkulu: 539 victims
8. Lampung: 486 victims
9. West Nusa Tenggara: 343 victims
10. South Sulawesi: 336 victims

JPPI National Coordinator, Ubaid Matraji, stated that the highest surge in cases occurred in October 2025 with 6,823 victims, an increase compared to September (6,052 victims) and August (2,226 victims).

“This means that the evaluation touted by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) last September did not have a significant impact on improvements on the ground,” he said in a written statement received by Databoks on Tuesday (November 4, 2025).

According to Ubaid, BGN's evaluation, which involved closing some kitchens, proved ineffective and unable to curb the rate of poisoning cases.

“The number of victims continues to rise and now even includes teachers, parents, toddlers, and pregnant women. This is proof that the MBG supervision, distribution, and quality assurance system continues to face problems and there is no clear solution yet,” he added.
