375,000 Inmates Receive Remission in Commemoration of Indonesia's 80th Independence Day

According to the Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham), there were 375,025 inmates received remission and sentence reductions (PMP) on August 17, 2025.

This remission and PMP were granted to coincide with Indonesia's 80th Independence Day. The remission and PMP are divided into four types:

• Decade Remission (RD): 192,983 inmates
• General Remission (RU): 179,312 inmates
• General PMP (PMPU): 1,369 child inmates
• Decade PMP (PMPD): 1,361 child inmates

According to the Directorate General of Corrections, RU and PMPU are routinely granted every August 17th, while RD/PMPD are granted to coincide with Indonesia's 80th Independence Day, which is a decade commemoration.

The Directorate General of Corrections explained that of the RU recipients, 175,395 inmates received a partial sentence reduction (RU I), while 3,917 were immediately released (RU II).

As for RD recipients, 182,857 inmates received RU I and 4,186 received RU II. In cases of imprisonment in lieu of fines, 5,626 inmates received a partial reduction (fine sentence I) and 314 were immediately released (fine sentence II).

For child inmates, 1,336 received a partial PMPU (PMPU I) and 33 were immediately released (PMPU II).

"The PMPD recipients consisted of 1,326 who received a partial reduction (PMPD I) and 35 who were immediately released (PMPD II)," stated the Directorate General of Corrections in its press release in Jakarta on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
