1,100 Allegations of Human Rights Violations in Indonesia until May 2025

The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has received 1,107 reports of alleged human rights violations in Indonesia during the January-May 2025 period.

In 2023 and 2024, the number of reports received annually consistently exceeded 2,500 cases, as shown in the graph.

Of all reports received during the January-May 2025 period, the majority relate to unprofessional conduct/procedural irregularities by law enforcement officials.

Many reports also concern agrarian issues, neglect of the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups, labor issues, and violence and/or torture by officials.

The following are the top 10 categories of alleged human rights violation reports received by Komnas HAM in January-May 2025:

1. Unprofessional conduct/procedural irregularities by law enforcement officials: 234 reports
2. Agrarian issues: 215 reports
3. Neglect of the rights of vulnerable and marginalized groups: 93 report
4. Labor issues: 84 reports
5. Violence and/or torture by officials: 48 reports
6. Violations of government administration: 34 reports
7. Personnel matters: 27 reports
8. Environmental issues: 27 reports
9. Arbitrary actions in court: 24 reports
10. Performance and code of ethics of law enforcement officials: 23 reports
