Top 10 Provinces with the Highest Human Development Index in 2024

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released Indonesia's 2024 Human Development Index (HDI) at 75.02 points.

Broken down by province, Jakarta ranks first with a score of 84.15 points, categorized as very high. Next is Yogyakarta Special Region with an HDI of 81.62 points.

Outside of these two provinces, no other province achieved an HDI score above 80 or in the "very high" category. These include Riau Islands (79.89 points), East Kalimantan (78.79 points), and Bali (78.63 points). West Sumatra, Banten, and Riau are also among the top 10.

Meanwhile, the five provinces with the lowest 2024 HDI scores are East Nusa Tenggara (69.14 points), South Papua (68.86 points), West Papua (67.69 points), Central Papua (60.25 points), and Highland Papua (54.43 points).

The HDI reflects achievements in human development, mirroring the extent to which quality of life can improve. Variables in the new HDI method include life expectancy at birth, average years of schooling, expected years of schooling, adjusted per capita expenditure, and purchasing power parity (PPP) calculations.

HDI achievements are categorized as follows:

* HDI < 60: Low HDI
* 60 ? HDI < 70: Medium HDI
* 70 ? HDI < 80: High HDI
* HDI ? 80: Very High HDI
