The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) report shows that Indonesia's Community Literacy Development Index (IPLM) is 73.52 out of a scale of 0-100 points.
By province, the highest score was achieved by South Sulawesi with an index score of 88.24 points. Second was Yogyakarta Special Region with 86.39 points.
Bangka Belitung Islands followed in third place with a score of 84.59 points. Fourth was West Sumatra, with 82.47 points.
Fifth was South Kalimantan with 81.16 points. The remaining top ten provinces are East Java, East Kalimantan, Gorontalo, West Kalimantan, and Riau Islands.
Meanwhile, the provinces with the lowest IPLM scores were Papua Pegunungan (35.25 points), Central Papua (48.94), and South Papua (49.78).
Citing the National Library website, the IPLM measures the efforts undertaken by regional governments (provincial and regency/city levels) in fostering and developing libraries as lifelong learning venues to achieve a culture of community literacy.
The components of this index include: the even distribution of library services, adequacy of collections, adequacy of library staff, daily visitor rate, libraries developed in accordance with National Standard, community involvement in socialization, and the growth in the number of library members.
