Formerly, Papua Province was the largest province in Indonesia. However, after its division into Papua, Central Papua, South Papua, and Highland Papua in 2022, that title transferred to Central Kalimantan.
Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Central Kalimantan Province has an area of 153,440 square kilometers (km) in 2024.
This figure is equivalent to 8.11% of Indonesia's total land area of 1.89 million km².
The next largest provinces are West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Papua, Riau, and South Sumatra.
Following these are Papua Province, North Sumatra, North Kalimantan, and Central Sulawesi.
