Data collected by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that the resolution rate of criminal cases in Indonesia reached 51.2% in 2023.
Although the percentage is relatively low, it represents an increase from 2022, when the rate was only 38.12%. In 2021, the rate was considerably higher at 71.85%.
*Databoks* compiled data on the 10 regional police jurisdictions (Polda) with the lowest resolution rates last year.
The lowest rate was recorded in Papua Police (Polda Papua) with only 10% of cases resolved in 2023. Historically, over the past three years, the resolution rate for this region has been below 50%.
In 2022, it was only 6.05%, and in 2021 it was 32.83%.
The second lowest rate was in Metro Jaya Police (Polda Metro Jaya) at 12.6%. This is an increase from 2022, when it was only 5.82%. However, the resolution rate in 2021 reached 97.99%. BPS has not yet detailed the reasons for this disparity.
For information, Polda Metro Jaya encompasses the South Jakarta, East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, Thousand Islands Police Resor (Polres), Bekasi Regency, Bekasi City, Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, Depok City, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and the Tanjung Priok Port Security Implementation Unit (KP3).
Third is East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with 16.47%. This is up from 4.77% in 2022, but a significant drop from 33.06% in 2021.
Next are Riau at 18.19% and North Sulawesi at 20.74%.
Other regions in the top 10 include Maluku, Riau Islands, West Papua, South Sumatra, and Southeast Sulawesi.
The Polda with the highest criminal case resolution rates in 2023 were North Kalimantan (95.47%), Central Java (91.53%), and East Java (87.95%).
The following are the 10 Polda with the lowest resolution rates in 2023, compiled by BPS from the Operations Control Bureau, National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri):
